Domain Naming and Network Registration System

Service Description
Domain Naming and Address Management System or DDI refers to a group of interrelated services (DHCP, DNS, etc) that allow network devices to obtain an IP address and a hostname.

DHCP

Brandeis provides DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) service for the university’s wired and wireless networks. Every device on a network needs an IP address to transmit data. The DHCP service provides an IP address automatically to any computer that successfully authenticates on the Brandeis network.

DNS

Brandeis provides DNS (Domain Name Service) to the university's wired and wireless networks.
This service is designed to translate Fully Qualified Domain Names to IP addresses and vice versa.
(e.g. www.brandeis.edu <-> 192.168.1.257).

There are several DNS servers for use by devices attached to the campus networks.
Campus DNS servers are:

dns-data-feld.bpc.brandeis.edu - 10.192.176.53
dns-data-sum.bpc.brandeis.edu - 10.194.176.53
